Emotional Impact of Key Bridge Collapse

Emotional Impact of Key Bridge Collapse

Today we awoke to the harrowing news that the Francis Scott Key Bridge had collapsed after being struck by a boat. Our team at Behavioral Health System Baltimore is holding the people who were on the bridge at the time, their families and first responders in our thoughts.

As the local behavioral health authority for Baltimore City, BHSB has been working with state and city officials, neighboring jurisdictions, and local partners to coordinate emotional health services for those affected by this tragedy. Behavioral Health Crisis Response teams from Baltimore City and Baltimore County have been onsite providing support and will remain for as long as they are needed. BHSB is also working with behavioral health providers to determine how the loss of the bridge will affect access to care for their clients and changes that may be needed.

We know that the impact of this tragedy will be felt across the Baltimore region and beyond. If you or a loved one is experiencing emotional distress, please call or text the 988 helpline. Counselors are available 24/7 to talk and to connect callers to resources. Coping tips are also available at 988helpline.org.

To keep our community informed, we will continue to provide periodic updates via social media. Follow us on X, Instagram and LinkedIn.
